Buckeye Book Community

September 1, 2017

ASH Alumnae and Society members and guests are invited to JOIN the Buckeye Book Community by getting a copy of the 2017 BBC book and reading it.

It’s more than a Book Club!

Feel free to join over 7,000 new Buckeyes in the Buckeye Book Community (BBC), and share an experience that will connect you to the whole first-year class.

The 2017 BBC selection is Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption, by Bryan Stevenson, one of the most brilliant and influential lawyers of our time, an unforgettable true story about the redeeming potential of mercy.

Just Mercy tells the story of Bryan Stevenson, a young lawyer who founded the Equal Justice Initiative, a legal practice dedicated to defending those most desperate and in need: the poor, the wrongly condemned, and women and children trapped in the farthest reaches of our criminal justice system.

One of his first cases was that of Walter McMillian, a man who was sentenced to die for a notorious murder he insisted he didn’t commit. The case drew Bryan into a tangle of conspiracy, political machinations and legal brinkmanship – and transformed his understanding of mercy and justice forever.

Questions to guide your reading can be found at:  fye.osu.edu/bbcquestions.html

You can join us at Hanley House on Thursday, October 26, 2017 to discuss the book and watch a live-streamed lecture by the author at 7:30 pm.  Mr. Stevenson will be on campus to share his story, discuss the book, and answer questions from audience members.
